A stray dog was spotted wandering with a broken flower pot around its neck in western India and had to be captured in a net by animal rescue workers.

The dog was seen in the city of Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, on April 19 and was believed to have put its head into a discarded flower pot made of plastic.

Somehow the bottom had fallen off and parts of the flower pot had stuck around its neck like a ring.

Local residents sought help from Akash Jadhav of Animal Rescue Society to rescue the dog, but the dog proved to be elusive as it would flee the moment it saw anyone approaching it.

After pursuing the dog in vain for four days, rescuers left a large butterfly net with a security guard at an apartment, where the dog was seen frequently. The residents were requested to use the net if they could catch the dog at an unguarded moment.

The next day, a 10-year-old boy saw the dog napping and then threw the net over it. A few grownups in the apartment restrained the dog till the Rescue team arrived and freed the dog.

Akash said: "The dog was so quick, we had to cut the pot through the net. The moment we removed the net, she sprinted away."
