Liverpool city centre quiet ahead of tier 3 lockdown
Liverpool city centre was relatively quiet ahead of the government's new tier 3 lockdown, which is expected to come into force on Wednesday (October 14).
Footage from Tuesday (October 13) shows people on the high street as social distancing measures signposted, while one police vehicle is seen patrolling.
The Tier Three lockdown means pubs, bars, gyms, betting shops and casinos will be closed indefinitely as well as mixing with different household indoors.
The decision has been a contentious one with many in Liverpool disagreeing with the measures as other UK cities are on a medium alert.
Liverpool City Council said: "Data extracted covering testing up to 9th October 2020 show that the total number of confirmed cases for the last 7 days is 3031, an increase of 377 cases on the previous week.
"The latest weekly rate of Covid-19 in Liverpool is 608.6 per 100,000 population and the latest positivity testing rate* is 17.3%."
