Anti-government protesters clashed with police leading to a number of arrests in Bangkok, Thailand, today (October 13).

The crowd had converged on the Democracy Monument area of the capital on the fourth anniversary of the death of the country's late King Rama 9 Bhumibol Adulyadej.

They had planned to camp overnight ahead of a planned march tomorrow. However, chaos erupted when dozens of police stormed the area.

Protesters tried to hold back the officers with metal barriers but the police surged forwards and surrounded a truck being used to make speeches. The leader was hauled down and carried away before several other protesters were seen being shoved into police vans.

Several officers were pelted with blue paint during the fracas, which saw several tents set up by the protesters torn down.

Officers said they were clearing the area ahead of a Royal motorcade scheduled to drive through later in the day. The country's monarch, King Rama 10 or Maha Vajiralongkorn, is taking part in ceremonies in Thailand to mark his late father's death.
