Neighbours save car washed away by floods in Indonesia
This is the shocking moment residents swim in neck-deep flood to save a car from being washed away by flash floods in Indonesia.
The white car was being held by 11 men after the muddy flash flood swamped a garage and carried it away in West Java province on October 12.
Onlooker Rijwan Nian watched the brave men help the car owner from the second-floor window of her house.
She said: "The flash flood was not strong, but it brought too much water into our village. The owner jumped into the water to save his car and some of our neighbours joined him."
The car was already drifting in the water so it was easier for them to push it back to higher ground.
The car was eventually secured with a rope into a pole in the elevated part of the street.
In nearby regions such as Garut Regency, hundreds of residents had to be evacuated after the rainstorms caused severe landslides.
Two people reportedly died while two children were still missing after being washed away by violent flash floods.
Meteorology and Geophysics Agency officials said that the severe flooding was caused by increased rainfall as a result of the La Nina phenomenon.
Rainfall across the country is expected to persist in higher amount until February next year due to the phenomenon.
La Nina events occur every three to five years or so, with the periodic cooling of ocean surface temperatures in the central and east-central equatorial Pacific, dumping more rainwater in tropical regions.
