This is the terrifying moment a house collapsed after being hit by flash floods in the Philippines as storms battering Southeast Asia have left 40 dead.

Footage shows the wall crumbling to the ground in Bulacan province yesterday (October 13) as tropical storm Ofel batters the country.

The building's collapse came after torrents of muddy water from a flash flood gushed through the narrow street.

Residents noticed that the wall’s foundation was becoming weaker after being eroded by floodwater so they battled to secure the area.

Neighbour Edrian Escalona captured the dramatic video as he watched the house collapse.

He said: “We were worried that our house could be damaged as well so we kept an eye on it from our terrace.

“After a few more hours of raining, the wall finally gave was and parts of our house was damaged too.”

No one was hurt from the incident as the family who lives in the house evacuated when they noticed it beginning to weaken.

The terrified residents immediately called the local officials for help who began the clearing the debris when the rain had stopped.

Tropical storm Ofel is expected to leave the country on Friday (October 16) but before that, the weather state bureau has raised landslide and flash flood warnings across southern and central Philippines.

The Philippines and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Malaysia are at the peak of their annual rainy season.

Heavy rains this month have caused floods and landslides in central Vietnam and western Cambodia, forcing tens of thousands of people from their homes.
