This dog knew it made a mistake when it accidentally tried to chew on its owner's engagement ring after performing a trick usually done with treats.

Footage shows golden retriever Milo from Nova Scotia, Canada balance the ring on his muzzle then suddenly whip it around and catch the accessory in his mouth to the shock and gasp of his owner.

Filmer Shayla Jawhar told Newsflare: "I put my engagement ring on Milo's nose to balance it so I can show my family a video.

"Without any commands, Milo throws it up fast and catches the ring with his mouth.

"I believe he realised it was not a treat after the huge gasp of worry I let out and immediately dropped it on the floor."
