Kids build boat from old boxes to cross flooded road in Vietnam
Children used an improvised boat made of styrofoam fruit boxes to cross a flooded road after heavy rain in Vietnam.
The youngsters were seen preparing the makeshift boat in Quoc Lo province on October 13. Roads were submereged in muddy water and they were unable to travel to different areas.
The boy was seen preparing the boat for his mother and siblings so they can reach their house on the other side of the deluge.
He checked the boat for damage before loading the food supplies and relief packs provided by their kind neighbours.
They then used a discarded piece of wood to paddle across the water until they reached their partly-submerged house.
Driver Son Pham Thanh, who passed by the children, said: "I was stuck in traffic when we saw the people gathering round by the flooded area. The boy was brave and strategic. He even checked the boat carefully before letting his family ride in it."
Vietnam and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Thailand, Philippines, Cambodia and Malaysia are at the peak of their annual rainy season.
Heavy rains this month have caused floods and landslides in central Vietnam and western Cambodia, forcing tens of thousands of people from their homes.
Officials believe that at least 29 people have died in the floods in Vietnam this month, with more than 130,000 homes flooded.
