A stray dog was rescued from a narrow gap after getting itself stuck between a concrete post and a wall while trying to visit its girlfriend.

Volunteer rescuers rushed to help the crying pooch after its head was stuck in Ang Thong province, central Thailand.

Shocked resident Saipiroon Boonsang, 53, said the mutt was trying to get in the neighbour's house to meet the female inside.

She called rescuers for help after seeing the mutt screaming with its head stuck forwards.

The team spent more than 40 minutes trying to pull the dog's head out before they used the rescue machine to expand the space, as they splashed some water onto the weary dog.

The male pooch, estimated to be around four-years-old, was later rescued before it went running away to drink water from the garden pool in the house.

Saipiroon said: "We are familiar with the pooch, it lives in the alley and we sometimes feed it. After it was rescued, it headed to its girlfriend without thanking the volunteers."
