Crowd erupts with French national anthem as man attempts to disrupt rally honouring beheaded teacher

More than 12,000 people attended a rally in Lyon, France on Sunday to honour Samuel Paty, the teacher beheaded after showing cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad to his pupils.

Those in attendance held a moment's silence and showed their appreciation by clapping. Some also sang La Marseillaise.

One man was arrested after trying to disrupt the march.

Rallies also took place in other French cities, including Paris.

Video shows people gathered in Lyon's Bellecour and a man shouting at protesters. In the video, police quickly apprehend him and put him into a vehicle.

A man named only as Abdoulakh A was shot dead by police on Friday after killing teacher Paty near his school in the Paris region.

Paty was beheaded after showing cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad to his pupils.
