A river burst its banks sending torrents of floodwater over a bridge and surrounding roads in Banteay Srei, Cambodia, on Sunday (October 18).

Flash floods have killed at least 24 people while thousands have been forced to evacuate their homes across Cambodia.

The continuous downpours have forced at least 8,000 families to flee their homes while more than 60,000 properties and 240,000 hectares of farmlands have been submerged in floodwaters.

Cambodia has been hit by severe flash floods this month after seasonal rains were made worse by tropical storms.

The heavy rains are expected to last for several more days while two more tropical storms are expected to hit the country in the coming weeks.

In neighbouring Vietnam, dozens have people have died after heavy rain caused floods and landslides.

Rains are also expected in Thailand in the central, north, northeast and the eastern regions. The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) said the country would experience wet weather over the coming days. They said a low-pressure cell east of the Philippines had intensified into a Category Two tropical depression which would move towards Thailand.
