As many as 70 people have been killed in rain-related incidents caused by the worst rains to hit the Indian state of Telangana in 100 years.

Footage filmed on October 19 shows the destruction caused by torrential rain in Hyderabad as roads have been left submerged and several structures in ruins.

According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) officials, the city is witnessing an unusual phenomenon as more rains are expected in the coming days.

Torrential rains have paralyzed daily life in Hyderabad, causing a number of fatalities amid severe flooding and destruction. Neighboring Andhra Pradesh has also been hit hard. The downpour is the heaviest rainfall witnessed in the city in the last 100 years.It has led to flooding in many parts of the capital, making main roads unusable and causing chaos.

Hundreds of residential colonies were marooned in the rainwater, thousands of homes went dark because of power outages and roads were breached as floodwaters were everywhere. Several old buildings crumbled and the city roads became unfit for motorists. Thousands of apartments were flooded with water because of which people living there could not step out.

Over 50 killed so far in the rain-related incidents. According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) officials, the city is witnessing an unusual phenomenon as more rains are expected in the coming days.
