This is the terrifying moment crocodiles were caught after causing panic when they escaped from a farm during deadly floods in Cambodia.

The reptiles were let loose after floodwaters filled their pond following heavy rain in Prek Kampoes commune, Kandal province on October 15 morning.

Other smaller crocodiles also broke out of the breeding centre when the water level rose, elevating them over barriers.

Local officials organised rescue teams to find all the missing reptiles and residents feared that the beasts could become hungry and attack them.

Footage shows one of the escaped crocodiles after it was caught being wheeled away on a trolley the next morning. Others were captured later that night, with locals joining in the search.

Chan Thavy, who lives in the area, said she is always anxious during floods because of the crocodile farms nearby.

She said: "I was very worried after hearing that crocodiles escaped from the nearby farm. Since the escape, I haven’t seen the farm owners do anything to stop another escape. I urge crocodile farm owners to take stricter measures to prevent escapes."

The team set up snares with meat bait in the overflowing river, which one took after a few hours of waiting. It was caught inside the trap made of a wicker basket and fishing net before the villagers rushed it back to the farm using a pushcart.

The other small reptiles were also caught one by one throughout the day. The team did not stop the search until all of the crocodiles were accounted for.

Some were found hiding in the riverbanks, while some of the baby crocodiles were found casually swimming in the flood.

Nobody was reported hurt by the crocodiles and the escaped reptiles were all found on the same day.

Cambodia has been hit by severe flash floods killing at least 25 people so far this month after seasonal rains were made worse by tropical storms.

More than 10,000 people had to be evacuated from the country's 19 out of 25 provinces, affecting more than 140,000 people.

The heavy rains are expected to last in the next few days while two more tropical storms are expected to hit the country in the coming weeks.
