Hundreds took to the streets of Providence, Rhode Island on Tuesday (October 20) in support of Jhamal Gonsalves, the victim in an officer-involved pursuit.

Gonsalves was seriously in the incident and is now in a coma.

The rally, which started peacefully, later turned violent and several were arrested.

Footage filmed by @gr8patemom shows protesters, some on dirt bikes, as sirens ring out in the background.

Footage of the incident, which happened on Sunday, shows police vehicles pursuing a man on a scooter. The man is then seen taking a right turn before the crash can be heard.

A police officer was put on administrative leave.

A rally for Jhamal Gonsalves, the victim of an officer-involved moped accident, turned chaotic as rally attendees and police clashed on Tuesday evening, October 20.

Groups from the rally riding ATVs and dirt bikes were met by a metal barricade and dozens of officers in riot gear around the Providence Public Safety Complex. The situation deteriorated when a smaller group that stayed behind began lighting off fireworks. Some witnesses report police pulling people from their cars, beating and kicking some of the protesters.
