On an extremely hot day in Kruger National Park in South Africa, this young elephant was caught having a grand scratch on October 20.

"The young elephant hilariously made adamant attempts to scratch most of his body by getting himself into some awkward looking body positions. The elephant decided that the vertical side of the riverbank was just the place to sort out his itchy problems. This young elephant adamantly scratched his head, neck, face, chest, the sides of his body and of course there was an itchy backside too. At one stage the young elephant found himself lying on the ground, performing the funniest looking movements. The young elephant looked totally irritated by his great itch but playful at the same time. I was totally amused by the young elephant’s performance, lasting longer than usual 'scratching sessions' normally would. We found this behaviour very entertaining and turned out to be the highlight of our safari. Eventually, it looked like the youngster was satisfied with hitting all those itchy spots and moved off to join the rest of the herd," said the filmer.

It was during a hot afternoon in the Kruger National Park when we came across a herd of elephants spread across the bank of a dry riverbed. It was extremely hot and even though the river was dry, there were a few small mud wallows remaining where the elephants could cool themselves down. While most of the elephant herd slowly started moving out of the dry riverbed, there remained one young male elephant that caught my attention. This guy looked extremely busy and adamant and I soon realised the young bull elephant didn’t just have an itchy spot on his body he wanted to scratch; It was his entire body and it looked to me he was sitting with a serious overall body itch.
