Shops and pubs were closed in Ireland on Thursday (October 22), the first day of a nationwide six-week lockdown.

Footage filmed on Dominick Street Lower in Galway shows closed shops with residents walking around the town's city centre.

Ireland returned to the highest level of coronavirus restrictions on Wednesday at midnight.

"What a difference a day makes. With most shops and all pubs and restaurants closed. Galway city center looks very desolate. The only bright thing is that today's weather is good ahead of rain for the weekend," the filmer Rod told Newsflare.
