Prisoners in Indonesia allowed to video call families due to COVID-19 pandemic

Prison officials in Padang City, Indonesia have organised a programme where inmates in local prisons can video call their relatives in order a curb the spread of COVID-19.

Footage shows one relative talk through video chat to a prisoner through a laptop.

The Head of the Guidance Division for class II-A inmates in Padang said: "This is done for the sake of the inmates' human rights to meet their families."

He explained that the laptop is set up in the prison office and visitors are limited to 15-minute slots with their loved ones who are behind bars.
