Water sustainability and conservation organisation hosted a drive-in in water conference at Clifton beach in order to comply with the country's Covid 19 lockdown regulations.

Conference attendees were provided with gift packs on arrival and cars were spaced as if they were at a movie drive-in. Audio to the event was streamed to attendees via local radio station which they listened into on their car audio systems. Keynote speakers spoke on stage which was a significant distance from the vehicles. Speakers not in attendance also addressed the conference via streaming and pre-recorded video clips.

Cape Town is the first major city to have faced a drought when it almost ran out of water in 2018. The impending possibility of taps running dry was referred to as Day Zero. The City then imposed massive water restrictions on citizens and had to find alternate methods of supplying water such as desalination.

Clive Justus, the City of Cape Town's Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation said the Covid 19 crisis has further highlighted the value of water and that without water they would not be able to tackle the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic.
