Former South African President, FW De Klerk, cast his vote at the voting station within the Old Sea Fisheries building in Sea Point.

The 2019 general election was the sixth democratic election in South Africa since 1994 when the first democratic elections were. Nelson Mandela became South Africa's first democratically elected president in 1994.

FW De Klerk, as the last apartheid president, authorised the release of Nelson Mandela in 1990 and the unbanning of political organisations opposed to the apartheid regime.

De Klerk served as a Deputy President in Mandela's cabinet until 1996.
