Hurricane Zeta made landfall as a Category 1 storm along the coast of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula on Monday night, October 26.

Resorts along the coast were lashed by strong winds and heavy rains.

In Cozumel, an island off the eastern coast of the peninsula, downed trees and electricity poles were seen the next morning.

Zeta has now weakened to a tropical storm but is expected to strengthen back into a hurricane as it crosses the Gulf of Mexico.

It is expected to hit the US Gulf Coast by Wednesday.
