30ft tall coffin tower collapses during funeral procession in Bali, Indonesia
This is the dramatic moment an 30ft tall coffin tower collapsed during a Hindu funeral procession in Indonesia.
Footage shows the tall tower tilting slowly before its peak fell on the roof of a house in Gianyar Regency on the island of Bali on October 25.
The crowd can be heard screaming in panic when the structure was about to fall while the people nearest to it supported it at the bottom to prevent further damage.
The dead lawyer's relatives rushed to retrieve the coffin from the tower before it was passed to the neighbours overhead like crowd surfing during a concert.
Tegallalang Police Chief Ketut Sudita said the structure fell while it was approaching a downhill road.
He said: "The wood at the bottom to support the Bade was weak for its weight. It broke when they were going downhill."
The body was evacuated into a fire truck which brought it to the cemetery followed by their relatives and close friends.
The traditional multi-tiered tower resembling a pagoda is locally known as a "Bade" which Hindu Balinese use to carry their dead in a funeral procession before burning it in a pyre.
However, since the lawyer's Bade broke, the relatives continued with the pyre without it at the cemetery.
