A London cyclist has captured footage, which he claims shows two Metropolitan Police officers cycling after dark with no lights on a busy road in east London.

The video, captured by the cyclist as he made his way along CS2 (Cycle Superhighway 2) on Thursday night, appears to show two uniformed officers on unlit bicycles attempting to cross a road.

"I was quite surprised at what I saw. Every other road user in the vicinity had sufficient lighting - both a front white light and rear red light - and yet these two police officers, who were crossing the road, had no lights at all" the filmer, who goes by the online alias ‘SW19cam’, later wrote online.

"Obviously it is really good to see police officers out and about on bikes, and I applaud them for that. But shouldn't they follow the same rules as the rest of us cyclists?” he added.

Footage has emerged of two police cyclists cycling after dark with no lights in East London.

This occured the day after a new Met Police Roads and Transport Policing command was announced by the Mayor, Boris Johnson.

SW19cam was cycling along CS2 (Cycle Superhighway 2) on the evening of 22nd January at about 6:45pm.

"It is possible that years of Conservative cuts have left them unable to buy lights, but they really must use lights like the rest of us if they are going to cycle after dark.
