Giant shark buried in Indonesia after getting lost and stranded

A huge shark 7 meters long and weighing 2.5 tonnes was buried after becoming stranded in an estuary in Indonsia on Monday (October 26).

The creature, which appeared to be a whale shark, was seen for five previous days swimming in shallow water in the Batang Surantih river estuary in Pesisir Selatan Regency, West Sumatra Province.

Even though local fishermen had tried to herd it into deeper waters, the giant fish returned to shore and eventually died.

Locals later had to use a digger to move the shark onto land where it could be buried. But because of its size, even the digger struggled to push it into its grave and the burial was only completed the next day (October 27).

It is the fourth time in two years the area has seen a stranding like this, although the size of the shark this time was unusual.
