A goldsmith and 'micro artist' in southern India has captured global attention with his microscopic sculptures.

Ravi Chandra, 40, from Badravathi in Karnataka state, never expected that his passion would one day bring him fame.

"Art has always been a part of me. I started sculpting when i was 20. Back then I did not know it was called micro art," he said.

"It has been 20yrs since i got into this and I am very happy. My family is also very supportive," he added.

The man has made a micro FIFA World Cup with just 0.02 milligrams of gold -- less than a grain of rice. The artist said his proudest moment is when he was awarded a place in the India Book of Records in 2015 for that work.

He has also sculpted a micro gold helmet from just 0.05mg, a micro Jesus with 0.05mg, and a micro Indian Prime Minister Nadrendra Modi from 0.02mg of gold.
