Caesar, the one-and-a-half-year-old labrador, has become a sensation in the southern Indian state of Kerala for his volleyball skills.

In a video from October 28, he can be seen playing volleyball with neighbourhood kids in the village of Mannarkad, Palakkad district, where Caesar lives with his family.

Tossing the ball effortlessly with his nose and mouth, Caesar is a match for the kids he plays with regularly.

Caesar's guardian, T. K. Mubeen, plays volleyball at university in Coimbatore. He returned home after the COVID lockdown was announced. Whenever he practiced at home, Mubeen found that Caesar was keen to get involved in the game, mimicking his moves.

Mubeen decided to train him, first teaching Caesar how to follow verbal commands such as sit, stand, and jump. After training three hours a day, Caesar learned how to toss the ball to other players.

Mubeen says Caesar was able to learn the basics of defence in just three months but often doesn't follow the rules, amusingly trying to play both sides of the net.

Whenever he practiced at home, Mubeen found that Caesar was trying to get involved in the game by mimicking his moves, and decided to train him.

He first taught Caesar to follow verbal commands such as sit, stand, jump, move right and left, and toss the ball. As soon as Caesar learnt these commands, his tryst with the ball started.

Training three hours a day, Caesar learnt to get under the ball, jump and toss it to other players like all good defenders.

Mubeen says Caesar was able to learn the basics of defence in just three months.

Caesar's young teammates are thrilled to have him in the game, but they feel playing with him can get challenging.

They say he doesn't always follow the rules and tries to play both sides of the net. He also makes a big fuss if he doesn't get the ball, they complain.
