Indonesian unions hold rally against controversial jobs law
Protesters in Indonesia turned out peacefully in the capital city of Jakarta against the controversial Omnibus Law on October 28.
Coinciding with the Youth Pledge Day, the labour unions GEBRAK and the Indonesian People’s Faction (FRI) held a rally at Central Jakarta’s Proclamation Monument on Wednesday in protesting against the passing of the omnibus law on job creation.
The peaceful rally was filled with political orations, poetry recital sessions, theatrical plays, musical performances, and the recital of ‘the 2020 people’s pledge’ in an attempt to convey their rejection against the omnibus law on job creation.
Responding to the rally, the Jakarta Metro Police said sufficient police personnel was mobilized to guard the rally that coincides with Indonesia’s collective leaves from October 28.
