Paramedics battle to cut away ring stuck on girl's swollen finger
A teenage girl was rushed to the hospital after a stainless steel ring was stuck on her swollen finger.
The student, 15, bought the trinket at a flea market in Krabi, southern Thailand and wore it on her left hand's middle finger on October 22.
When she arrived home, she tried to remove the ring but found it was stuck. She used soap and vegetable oil to lubricate her finger and tried to slide it off but failed.
The schoolgirl panicked after her finger became severely swollen so she called her parents for help who took her to the hospital.
However, the nurses had to call the rescuers for help because the hospital did not have the proper cutting tool for the ring.
When the Pitakpracha rescue team arrived, they calmed her down and put a thick plastic sheet between the ring and her finger before filing it until it was cut.
The other rescuers distracted her by talking while their colleague filed off the ring in front of the teenager.
After almost half an hour of filing, the rescuer was able to create a gap and pull the ring off her finger.
Speaking after, the grateful girl said: "I tried to take it off myself but it was painful. I could not remove it. I will never wear a stainless ring again."
She later thanked the volunteers before the nurses gave her medication to prevent inflammation.
