This is the moment British surfer Andrew "Cotty" Cotton rode a monster wave at Nazaré on "Big Thursday" (October 29th) which some have since suggested could be the "biggest ever."

Garrett McNamara, who was the record holder for many years himself, asked in an Instagram post if it was the "biggest wave ever ridden."

Cotton can't be sure, and all surfers must wait until the end of the season for the results, but he told The Times newspaper:

"It was 100 per cent the fastest I have ever been on a surfboard."
