Super Typhoon Goni washes away two dogs in severe floods
This is the heartbreaking moment two dogs were washed away in floods when Typhoon Goni hit the Philippines on Sunday (November 1).
The typhoon, which is called Typhoon Rolly in the Philippines, flooded the street in Albay province. It is not known if the dogs survived.
The storm killed at least 16 people after making landfall on Sunday morning. There were severe floods after rivers burst their banks and swamped surrounding fields.
Meteorologists said the typhoon had the same force as a Category 5 hurricane.
More than one million residents - around 1,000 of them with Covid-19 - were evacuated from their homes into temporary evacuation centres. There were concerns that evacuations could further spread the virus.
Weather and disaster officials said Typhoon Goni is among the strongest typhoons to hit the Philippines since Haiyan, which killed more than 6,300 people in 2013.
