Teenager rescued after falling into 90ft deep well in Indonesia
A teenager had to be rescued after falling into a 90ft-deep well at a tofu factory in Indonesia.
Bowo Triantoro, 18, said he was "looking for his slippers" when he plunged into the hole at the small factory in Semarang City October 29.
One of the workers, Tumirah, 64, heard him a the sound of water splashing followed by calls for help.
Tumirah found the lad soaked and crying for help at the bottom of the deep shaft before calling the rescuers for help.
The team arrived at the scene with long climbing ropes and attached a pulley system to a post near the well.
A brave rescuer attached his safety harness to the pulley and wore an oxygen breathing mask before descending to save the youngster.
He rappelled down the deep well while carrying the small oxygen tank on his back to let him breathe while climbing down.
When he reached the bottom, he gave the youngster his breathing mask, tied him up in a harness, and checked for injuries before he gave signals to his colleagues to pull them up.
The youngster was lifted to safety after almost half an hour. The paramedics took him to the ambulance waiting outside to check his health.
He had no serious injuries apart from light scratches and bruises across his arms and legs from the impact of the fall.
Semarang City head rescuer Nur Yahya said the youngster was taken home to his family afterwards.
He said: "The workers called us for help when the victim was found. Luckily they found him immediately because the well is deep and he could have suffocated below."
