Students warmed themselves up by a fire in a classroom in northern Thailand as cooler weather begins.

Primary school students gathered around a clay pot with burning coal to warm themselves as temperatures dropped to single digits at school in Phitsanulok province.

Teacher Tanakorn Chanlernsri from Ban Huai Sai school, located on the mountain village, brings coal-fire stoves to school as the winter season starts.

He said: "We light the fire and study around the bonfire, so all students will feel warm and pay more attention to the class."

Thailand's weather is becoming cooler, particularly in the northern regions of the country, as the winter season approaches.

Temperatures can fall to single digits - far below the hot summer climate which passes 35 Celsius on most days.
