This is the bizarre moment a motorcycle rider was seen hanging from a railway bridge - after leaping out of the way of an oncoming train.

The daredevil rider was riding along the tracks built over a river in a mountain town in West Java Province, Indonesia when he heard the train approaching on October 31.

Realising there was not enough time to the other side, he immediately left his scooter on the narrow edge of the railroad so it would not be run over before climbing down and clinging to a pole while the train passed.

The train's passengers were baffled when they saw the man but he did not look hurt and even nodded at them as they passed.

A woman and a child, believed to be relatives of the rider, was seen at the other end of the railway.

The rider continued to cross the railway after the train had passed and reportedly went home with his family.

Railways company PT Kereta Api Indonesia officer Eva Chairunisa said locals sometimes use the railroads as shortcuts despite the danger.

She said: "The bridge is being used by some residents to access neighbouring villages, but the bridge is not for pedestrians, motorcyclists, or any other vehicle.

"What this man did was a violation of the Railways Law in Indonesia. The bridge is specifically for trains."

Eva added that they will investigate the incident before deciding whether they will take legal action against the man on the video.

She also reminded the locals to be careful and follow the railway law to prevent accidents from happening.
