Gold packets worth over $70,000 seized by airport customs in southern India

A spate of recent gold smuggling attempts have been discovered at Chennai International Airport in southern Indiia.

Gold worth $52,289.54 USD was seized by the air customs department on November 3, as the suspect was intercepted at the Anna International Terminal.

A video featuring the smuggled items showcases four packets of gold paste weighing 850 grams, five bundles of gold paste weighing 437 grams, and two gold extracts weighing 740 grams and 375 grams.

A similar case came forward on November 2, where gold worth $26,476.74 USD was seized by the department

Shahul Hameed, aged 40, was arrested for smuggling the four packets and the gold extract of 740 grams of 24K purity on November 3. He flew in from Dubai on flight number 6E66.

The other five bundles of paste and the gold piece were extracted from Mohamed Sajamkhan Kalandar Ayubkhan, aged 23, who flew in from the same flight on Monday.
