With mother nature offering a sneak peek into the beautiful world of birds, a parakeet was spotted feeding its baby chicks food in Sri Lanka's North Central Province on October 20.

The beautiful moment was captured on camera in Anuradhapura's Habarana.

The video shows a pair of chicks being fed by the adult parakeet while keeping in check its surroundings for predators. The baby duo can be seen peeking out of the tree hole that the bird has made its nest in.

Female parakeets lay between four and six eggs per clutch. The mother bird sits on her clutch for 18 days, prior to the chicks' hatching. Baby parakeets depend completely on their parents for food.

Newly hatched parakeets are unable to see with limited movement and can not bring their heads up to signal to their mother that they're hungry. However, they can chirp and it is to this noise that the mother responds.

Their mother takes care of all their needs in their first weeks of life, feeding them with a mixture of seeds and her saliva.
