Flash floods submerged residential streets after heavy rain battered Malaysia on Wednesday (November 4).

Residents in Seremban District, Sembilan State, were woken up by the raging muddy torrents in the early hours of the morning.

A number of cars were seen submerged in dirty water which gushed into dozens of properties.

Seremban Civil Defense Force officer, Mohd Najib Abd Karim, said that nine areas were affected by flash floods.

He said: "Government officials have been deployed to provide assistance to flood-affected communities."

Based on the results of data collection, there were 420 people from 84 families who were affected by the flood. They were evacuated to a government-owned school.

Mohd Najib added: "In some places, the water level is up to two to four meters."

Meanwhile, the head of the Seremban Fire and Rescue Department, Mohamad Idris, said that one person is believed to have been dragged away by the flood.

He said: "We have received reports about an incident where a man was lost in the flow and we will continue the search process."
