A beautiful and deadly banded krait was spotted eating a smaller snake on a road near Bhubaneswar in eastern India on Saturday (November 7th).

Susant Behera, a member of Snake Helpline, was returning home when he saw a Banded krait on the road.

The deadly snake was in the process of swallowing a smaller snake.

It finished its meal in a hurry, crossed the road and vanished into bushes.

Susant Behera parked his bike on the road to give some protection to the snake from traffic as it crossed the road.

General Secretary of Snake Helpline, Subhendu Mallik, said: "Banded kraits are predominantly snake eaters. From the tail portion of the prey, I guess it seems to have hunted a smooth-scale water snake".

Banded kraits have a deadly neurotoxin venom that paralyses the muscles.

The snake is identified with the bright yellow and black bands across the body.
