Gold worth $95378 seized from passengers flying in at southern Indian airport
Gold paste and bundles weighing a total of 1.31 kg (2.88 lbs) worth Rs 70.7 lakh (USD 95378) were recovered from passengers flying in southern India's Tamil Nadu on November 8 and November 7. The seizure took place in Chennai International Airport.

512 grams of gold valued at Rs 27.6 lakh (USD 37214) was recovered and seized under the Customs Act from Mohammed Asif aged 24 of Chennai, and Mohamed Sharif aged 39 of Ramanathapuram. The duo had arrived via Air India Express IX 1644 and Indigo 6E 66 respectively. They had concealed gold in the form of a paste in their clothes and bundles in their rectum.
Earlier on November 7 four passengers Shaul Hameed of Pudukottai, Syed Ajmer Haja, Naina Mohammad of Ramanathapuram, and Jegatheesh, of Trichy who had arrived from Dubai via Fly Dubai flight FZ-8517 were intercepted at the exit on the suspicion of carrying gold. On being intercepted and questioned, they all confessed to carrying gold.
Nine bundles of gold paste weighing 898 grams were recovered which yielded 800 grams of gold valued at Rs 43.1 lakh (USD 58136).
