This is the terrifying moment a wild snake appeared on a car windscreen.

The deadly python had been sheltering inside the car engine while it was parked during a rainstorm in Chiang Rai, northern Thailand.

However, when motorist Thanin Tongiw, 28, went for a drive on Sunday morning (November 8) the serpent reared up from under the bonnet.

Horrifying footage shows the snake probing at the clear glass as it stares menacingly at the driver while trying to get inside.

Thanin said: ''I glanced into the mirror then when I looked back the snake's head was pointing at me. I was shocked.''

The young man kept his cool and continued driving for a minute hoping that the python would fall away.

However, it clung to the windscreen so Thanin pulled over by the roadside. The snake eventually slithered off the side of the vehicle and onto the road before disappearing into the undergrowth.

Thanin added: ''I thought the snake was going to get in through the window and attack me. I was scared but I just waited for it to go away.

''I have never heard of anybody being eaten by a snake while they're driving. I'm glad I'm not the first.''
