Refugees who started a protest late in 2019 at the offices of the UNHCR in Cape Town are now in temporary shelters in Bellville.

The protesters are still demanding that they be repatriated to countries which are not xenophobic as they alleged South Africa is not a safe haven for them.

Days into the Covid 19 lockdown implemented in march police moved them from the Cape Town Methodist Church to the temporary shelter.

In the last 7 days 56 members of the group were arrested and told they will be deported to their birth countries.

Subsequently the ablution facilities and toilets have been removed from the shelter. this has forced parents to wash their young children in the open and use buckets to defecate.

They have made a passionate plea to the UNHCR to assist them with relocation to countries where refugees are safe.
