Lamps made of cow dung are big hit in India ahead of Diwali
To help cow shelters and cattle farmers struggling from the COVID-19 pandemic as well as counter Chinese products, the Rashtriya Kamdhenu Aayog (RKA) has decided to promote "Diyas" (Lamps) made of cow dung this Diwali.
Set up in 2019 for the protection, promotion, and conservation of indigenous cattle in the country, RKA has started a nationwide campaign to encourage the use of cow dung-based products during the forthcoming festival.
India is not only the largest milk - but also the largest cow dung producer worldwide. Currently, 1.92 billion kilos of cow dung per day are produced in India. The livestock economy sustains nearly 73 million households in rural areas in India.
RKA is promoting the production of other products made from dung, urine, and milk, such as anti-radiation chip, paperweights, Ganesha and Lakshmi idols, incense sticks, candles etc.
