Dramatic CCTV footage has emerged from China of an alleged ‘drunk driver’ smashing through a set of revolving doors into a hotel lobby.

In the video, captured on a security camera on Tuesday 20 January, the SUV can be seen driving into the lobby of the hotel in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, before performing a U-turn in front of the reception desk.

According to local news reports, the driver told police that he had drunk a considerable amount of alcohol that evening and drove at the revolving doors for a thrill.

“We conducted a blood test on the man and the results showed the alcohol content in his blood was 134 milligrams per 100 millilitres. He was drunk while driving,” police officer Xiang Binle told local news.

The driver caused 300,000 yuan (48,538 US dollars) worth of damage to the hotel but, fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The driver has been arrested and remains in custody while police investigate the accident further.
