Queues for COVID tests continue as Greek doctors warn hospitals in Thessaloniki are at breaking point dealing with a surge in new cases.

The resilience of the public health system is being tested in Thessaloniki as the city proves to be a "champion" in new cases every day. Ambulance crews wearing protective uniforms are constantly transporting patients with coronavirus symptoms while tents have been set up outdoors in Ippokratio and AHEPA general hospitals, in order to minimize the in-hospital spread of the virus from patients who have already been infected with the virus. The tents were placed outside so those who present with the symptoms can have a coronavirus test. Another reason why this action was deemed necessary is that the tests should not be performed outdoors in view of the worsening weather conditions.
