Some Vietnamese homeowners were today (November 14th) weighing down their roofs with water-filled bags as Typhoon Vamco approached.

According to locals, the method if much faster than transporting sandbags and just as effective for stopping the roof from being torn off.

They say they can cover an average-sized roof with the bags of water in about one hour.

After the storm passes, they say they can simply burst the bags and let the water flow away.

With winds of up to 103 mph, Vamco is predicted to hit Vietnam's coast from Ha Tinh to Quang Ngai province later today (November 14th), according to the government's weather agency.
