This is the shocking moment a concrete wall lining a canal collapsed after being damaged by floods from Typhoon Vamco in the Philippines.

Jana Fercol was cleaning mud from her house that had been submerged by the typhoon when she noticed the ground shaking in Rizal province.

The terrified resident said she worried that their house could collapse into the water as it is only a few inches from the eroded portion of the structure, also known as a riprap.

She said: “After the flood has destroyed our properties, we are dealt with this. I don’t know how we could rebuild our home after this calamity.”

Rescue operations are still ongoing but the death toll from Typhoon Vamco has already reached 53 with dozens still missing.

The storm has left the country and it moving towards Vietnam where residents are being evacuated. The floods left behind in the Philippines have submerged thousands of acres of crops, residential, and commercial buildings at the tip of Luzon island

Aerial footage from a rescue helicopter showed the Rio Grande de Cagayan, the longest stream in the country’s biggest mainland, which has overflowed and covered surrounding land in muddy floodwaters.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Vamco was a Category Two typhoon and made a ‘signal 3’ warning, with signal 5 being the highest.

They warned of ‘’heavy damage to high-risk structures’’ and ‘’increasing damage to old, dilapidated residential structures, and houses of light materials.”

The agency said there would be ‘’widespread disruption of electrical power and communication services’.’

The storm comes just over a week after Typhoon Goni, also known as Typhoon Rolly, killed 74 people and destroyed thousands of homes in the Philippines when it made landfall on November 1.
