'The End' - a new artwork by British artist Heather Phillipson, unveiled on Thursday 30 July 2020, tops the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square with a giant swirl of whipped cream, a fly, a cherry and a drone that transmits a live feed of Trafalgar Square. Live footage of the square, streamed from a camera drone can be viewed by visitors on their mobile phones. The work was commissioned in 2016 and was meant to reflect post-Brexit, pre-Trump politics. It is about the state and mass surveillance. Installed in Trafalgar Square during the coronavirus pandemic, the sculpture sure has an added meaning to its original concept.
