Rosenberg’s Monitors (Varanus rosenbergi) are large, fast predatory lizards that are found across southern Australia. They are particularly common in southern Western Australia, where they are also called goannas. This Rosenberg’s Monitor was hunting along the edge of Red Gum Pass Road. It paused as we stopped our vehicle and watched warily as we got closer. After a while the lizard decided that we were not a threat, and resumed hunting, flicking its long forked tongue as it walked off the road.
