British diplomat rescues college student who fell into fast-flowing river in China
A British embassy counsellor rescued a college student who fell into a fast-flowing river in southern China.
In footage captured by a tourist in Zhongshan Ancient Town, the counsellor of the British Embassy in Chongqing, Stephen Ellison, 61, leapt into a river to rescue a girl that had fallen in.
Ellison managed to pull the unconscious girl out and she quickly regained her breathing and consciousness.
A female college student accidentally fell into the water while taking pictures.
Ellison told reporters that saving a life was the happiest thing in this journey.
He also mentioned, after swimming ashore, the villagers actively surrounded him and brought him back to his home by the river. They put on dry clothes for him, warmed him up with food and coffee, and gave him a 6-metre-long painting scroll of Zhongshan Ancient Town as a gift before leaving.
The video was filmed on November 14 and provided by local media.
