This is the dramatic moment brave residents saved a family that was trapped inside a burning house.

The heroic men climbed over metal gates and across garage roofs to reach the second-floor balcony of the burning home in Pampanga City, the Philippines, on Saturday November 14 afternoon.

They tore off the metal bars built across the balcony that were keeping the family imprisoned in the inferno as the flames roared.

When some of the railings were finally removed, they helped the youngsters and women clamber across the roof while others waited for them at the bottom to help them descend.

Three generations of the same family including the grandmother, mother and five children were saved.

Onlooker James Dungo, who lives at the house across the street, said the fire started when the children accidentally set their bedroom on fire after playing with match sticks.

He said: "I am glad no one was hurt. Everyone ran up to the house to help the family while the others prepared water buckets to douse the flames while waiting for help."

Firefighters arrived and were able to extinguish the blaze after 30 minutes.

No one was hurt from the incident as the fire did not easily spread to neighbouring homes, which were all made from concrete.
