Residents rescued dogs from flooded homes by placing them inside polystyrene boxes and transferred them to safety in the Philippines on November 12.

Footage shows a man paddling in the flooded Provident village in Marikina City during the onslaught of Typhoon Vamco 12 while pushing the weary pooch tucked inside the box.

Des Flordeliz said they saw their neighbour's dogs trapped on the building across the street so they decided to help them.

She said: "It gives a nice feeling to help the dogs through this simple way. I am glad we were able to save them and survived the flood with us."

Vamco, or Ulysses as it is known locally, has submerged homes and agricultural lands in the greater part of the country's biggest mainland Luzon.

The floodwater has subsided in Metro Manila but rescue teams are still battling to reach stranded residents further north in Cagayan province, which suffered severe floods.

As of Monday, typhoon Vamco had killed at least 67 people in the Philippines with dozens more missing.

The storm has now moved eastwards and hit central Vietnam, where it made landfall on Sunday.
