After large-scale social restrictions were implemented in Indonesia due to the coronavirus pandemic, one family's local coconut shell craft business was forced into the digital world.

NBF Craft (@Nbf_craft), located in Padang Sarai, West Sumatra, makes piggy banks, key chains, teapots, handbags from coconut shells, with prices ranging from Rp. 5,000 to Rp. 300,000 (less than $1 to $20).

Coconut shell craftswoman and owner Nesa Bukti Farsa, 20, said that during the pandemic her business, which was started 10 years ago, declined and none of the handicrafts were selling.

"We entered the digital world and thank God. In the future, this business will continue to develop and market digitally. Especially during the current pandemic, people are more interested in shopping online to prevent transmission," she explained.

The family business also began to sew and sell masks to stabilize their small shop.

Nesa, who is the first child of five siblings, hopes the business will continue to grow and invite local residents to work together so that they can reduce unemployment in the community.
