Villagers in India celebrate bizarre festival 'Thaladavi' requiring them to throw cow dung at each other
Thalavadi is a hilly tribal village that is near the Sathyamangalam Erode district in Tamilnadu. The villagers celebrate a bizarre festival that requires them to throw cow dung on each other.
This festival happens near a temple called 'Peerashwarar' after the third day of Diwali (The killing of the Naragasur demon is celebrated as Diwali).
The local administration has ordered the villagers not to gather more than a hundred due to the COVID-19 but all rules flew in the sky and more than 500 people gathered to celebrate the cow dung throwing festival.
Cow dung was collected from all over the village and was kept in two places. Later, the boys and youths of the village joined the festival.
They made cow dung in small balls and threw it on each other. This continued for more than an hour. After that went to a nearby water tank, took bath, and went to worship their God.
Later the elders were seen collecting the cow dung. When inquired about the celebration, they said, "we have a belief that if we use this cow dunk that is used in the festival as a manure in our fields we will have a good harvest on that year and so we are collecting it."
